1What services does Accessible Iceland offer?
Accessible Iceland specializes in renting wheelchair-accessible vehicles, specifically Volkswagen Caddy models, which are equipped to safely transport individuals using wheelchairs. These vehicles are designed to provide freedom and flexibility for wheelchair users and their companions. The company also offers transportation services and driver-guided tours in wheelchair accessible vehicles.
2How are the vehicles equipped for wheelchair users?
The vehicles are specially outfitted with essential safety features, including: Special belts for securing wheelchairs. A ramp to facilitate easy access into the vehicle. Additionally, the Volkswagen Caddy offers: Automatic transmission for ease of driving. Seating capacity for up to 5 passengers plus one wheelchair user. Diesel fuel efficiency. A reverse parking camera for added safety. For transportation and tour services, Accessible Iceland offers Mercedes Benz Sprinter vehicles that can carry up to 4 wheelchairs simultaneously with 5-10 able body passengers in seats.
3What are the rental rates and terms?
The standard rental rate can be found on the product page. The vehicle is rented with unlimited kilometers and CDW insurance. The rental period starts at 13:00 (1:00 PM) on the day of pickup and ends at 12:00 (12:00 PM) the following day.
4How can I book a vehicle?
Bookings can be made through the Stólabílar website or by contacting them via email at stolabilar@stolabilar.is. It's advisable to book in advance to ensure vehicle availability for your desired dates.
5What are the contact details and operating hours?
Address: Smiðshöfði 7, 110 Reykjavik, Iceland. Phone: +354 470 1990. Email: stolabilar@stolabilar.is. Operating Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Our operation center has emergency phone support 24/7 for ongoing rentals. Collection and/or return of vehicles can be scheduled outside office hours for a fee. Collection and/or return of vehicles can be arranged at KEF airport for a fee.
6Are there any specific requirements for renting a vehicle?
Driver must be 21 years or older with a fully valid drivers license required and recognised by Icelandic Authorities. Driver must present the drivers license to our agent upon collection of the vehicle and allow for us to make a copy of it for our records. Renter must have a valid Credit Card and pay a security deposit that is reimbursed upon return of the vehicle without damage.
7Do the vehicles come with instructions on using the accessibility features?
Yes, upon renting, Accessible Iceland provides training on how to use the safety equipment and accessibility features to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all passengers.
8Can I travel outside of Reykjavík with the rented vehicle?
Absolutely. The vehicles are available for travel throughout Iceland, allowing you to explore various attractions, including Reykjavík city sights, the Golden Circle, and the unique Icelandic countryside. You cannot drive on our mountain F-roads and you cannot drive off-road. As long as you stick to the Icelandic road system you are free to travel the whole island.
9Do I need to provide my own wheelchair restraints?
No, all wheelchair-accessible vehicles come equipped with proper wheelchair restraints and safety belts to ensure a secure and comfortable ride for wheelchair users.
10Can the wheelchair user drive the vehicle, or is it only for passengers?
The Volkswagen Caddy models offered by Accessible Iceland are designed for a wheelchair passenger, not a wheelchair driver. The wheelchair user remains securely in their wheelchair during travel, and another person operates the vehicle.
11Are there any age restrictions for renting a wheelchair-accessible vehicle?
Yes, drivers need to be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license.
12Is insurance included in the rental price?
Basic insurance is included. Collision damage waiver (CDW) can be purchased for additional fee.
13Can I install additional seating in the vehicle?
No, the vehicle’s layout is specifically designed to accommodate a wheelchair user safely. Any modifications to seating arrangements must comply with safety regulations and be approved by the rental company.
14Can I pick up or drop off the vehicle at the airport?
Yes, we do offer vehicle pick-up/drop-off at KEF airport for an additional fee of 30.000 ISK.
15What happens if I have a breakdown or need roadside assistance?
In case of an emergency please call our 24/7 emergency hotline and our service center will assist you with resolving your issues. Access to roadside assistance is included in our rental contracts but can carry a fee depending of the nature of the incident. Please refer to your rental contract for more details.
16Can I extend my rental period if needed?
Rental period extensions are based on availability. Please notify Accessible Iceland as soon as possible if you need to extend your rental. As our vehicles are specialised and our clients are dependent on us to honour our availability we ask that you return your vehicle in due time when your rental period ends so that we can prepare for our next client.
17Are pets allowed in the vehicle?
Pets are not allowed in Accessible Iceland rental cars with the exception of service animals. Please make sure to notify us if you intend to transport service animals so that we can make sure to sanitise the vehicle properly after you return it.
18What fuel type do the wheelchair-accessible vehicles use?
All of our vehicles have the fuel type on a sticker by the fuel funnel. Please refer to the stickers before pumping fuel to the vehicle.
